Big Money Moves From Twitter

BIG MONEY MOVES FROM TWITTER

Twitter dropped an absolute bombshell of an announcement this week with the complete discontinuation of political advertising on the platform. This is undoubtedly an industry first and absolutely puts pressure on Facebook (and others) to consider their own advertising policies. Especially as the court of public opinion continues to place more and more responsibility with Social Media companies post Cambridge Analytica.

There's plenty of write-ups on the move, but I think it's best to read the original announcement, (and the sentiment in the comments too).

KNOCK KNOCK TIKTOK

The drama continues for TikTok this week with insider reports alleging the company is under investigation from the US government as a potential threat to national security.

Now off the bat, this is probably not as big of a deal as the headlines would have you believe. However, there are some reasonable grounds for the investigation, including a story we covered about a month ago that claimed TikTok was censoring coverage of the Hong Kong protests and other anti-China topics. TikTok (of course) denied these claims and has regularly evidenced the separation between the company and its Chinese counterparts.

Chances are the investigation won't amount to much, and TikTok will continue to create distance between itself and Beijing, especially in the states.

DAN 'THE SOCIAL MEDIA MAN' ANDREWS

I'm don't really follow any politicians on Social Media, it's not really 'my thing'. However, I have to give a shoutout to the Social Media game of Victoria Premier, Daniel Andrews, who's got a stellar Facebook presence and some solid meme chops on Instagram too.

I think what I find most impressive is that the content is consistently high quality, entertaining and ticks a lot of best practice boxes that stacks of politicians (and Social Media creators in general) can't seem to get right.

Oh and, he's got a TikTok too - lmao.
