More Dark Mode Pls
DARK MODE ALL THE THINGS
Turns out God is real, and he/she/they have answered my prayers - finally delivering a sweet dark theme for Instagram. If you haven't already got access, update your phone to iOS13, Insta should update soon after.
My biggest takeout from this 'eye-saving' update is to avoid content with white borders or backgrounds. It looked great before but looks verrry out of place in dark mode.
HOW TO BRAND ON REDDIT
I seriously love Reddit, probably too much, and I feel like we're well overdue on a Reddit-centric chat.
One of my favourite examples of brands on Reddit right now is Moment, a US-based startup. Their use of Reddit lets staff speak on behalf of the company to give a hyper-personal level of community management (perfect for the platform).
Here's an example where Moment's Head of Product used Reddit to respond to a customer query and build some hype for an upcoming product release. Additionally, here's another example of Moment using Reddit to host an AMA with the company founders.
TLDR; Even with a small membership, Moment is putting in the effort to create a high-quality community, and it reflects very highly on the brand IMO.
EL LINKEDIN, A NETFLIX MOVIE
I've been doing a course this term all about career development, it's a banger, and as a result, I've spent way more time on LinkedIn than I usually would. Thanks to this, I've discovered the Netflix LinkedIn channel, and I think I'm kind of in love with the strategy they've got going.
What I love about the strategy is that you won't find any promo of Stranger Things, The Good Place or El Camino (solid watch btw). Instead, you'll find highlights of Netflix employee's, videos of new offices, blogs about life at Netflix and discussions about all things career-related.
I really do recommend taking a look over the content, it's a solid take on LinkedIn with a clear focus on attracting talent to the company. I've linked(In) some of my favourites here, here and here.
THE DEATH OF INSTA-STALKING?
ICYMI: Instagram is in the process of removing the following section from the app; which allowed users to view the activity of the people they follow. Personally, this a non-issue and if anything actually serves to benefit brands/influencers who will probably be keen on not having their activity displayed.
